MAM Setup: What it Means for You and Your Team
When your employees use their personal phones for work, there’s an inherent security risk. How do you protect the work data on that phone while respecting personal privacy?
Mobile application management (MAM) is a great way to control work applications without controlling the whole device.
It’s an excellent middle ground between complete control and no control.
To help manage your team’s time, let’s break down how your team can help make the process smooth, what will change and how much downtime you can expect during initial setup.
What is the Expected Downtime?
Downtime is very minimal.
Between installing the apps and configurations, it should take less than five minutes. Of course, should your employees run into any issues, they can submit a ticket on the support app, call us at (616) 949-4020 or email us at support@hungerford.tech.
From the employer side, your role is mostly communication and reinforcement. We handle the technical configuration, but you should make sure employees know what to expect and complete the required app installs when prompted.
Your Role in a MAM Rollout
From the employer side, your role is mostly communication and reinforcement. We handle the technical configuration, but you should make sure employees know what to expect and complete the required app installs when prompted.
- Communicate the rollout to employees and let them know they will receive prompts during setup.
- Reinforce the required app installs for employees who use personal phones for work:
- iPhone users will need Microsoft Authenticator.
- Android users will need Intune Company Portal and Microsoft Authenticator.
Two additional notes:
- Employees will be notified when the policy has been applied to their phones.
- Microsoft Authenticator is likely already installed if employees currently use it for multifactor authentication.
What Will Change for Your Team?
Once the project is complete, there will be some changes regarding how your employees access work data. For example,
- Built-in mail apps on iPhones and Androids will no longer work. Employees will be required to use the Microsoft Outlook app for email.
- As discussed in this blog, MAM does not give your organization or Hungerford any ability to control a personal device, track activity or see personal data on the phone.
