What is Global Secure Access?
Are you worried about your remote workers using insecure networks to access your cloud-based applications?
Do you utilize an on-premises server and need an alternative to a VPN for those working outside the office?
There’s a solution for both cloud-based organizations and those that still have a physical server.
It’s called Global Secure Access, and it’s a unifying term that includes Microsoft Entra Internet Access and Microsoft Entra Private Access.
Both solutions cost $5 per user, per month, and there is no minimum requirement.
We’ll briefly explain what each solution does so you can decide which license to give your employees. If you’re looking for an in-depth breakdown of each solution, you can click the links above.
Entra Internet Access: Secure Remote Workers
Entra Internet Access gives you a consistent way to control how and when your remote employees access company data. It provides a secure connection to cloud tools like Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Dropbox or Salesforce, and it also protects your employees from malicious websites and other threats.
Instead of relying on whatever network your employees are on — home Wi-Fi, hotel internet or a public hotspot — Entra Internet Access ensures their connection is private and protected.
Whether you still have on-premises servers or are fully cloud based, remote employees can securely access data just like those who work in the office.
Control is key, as you can block certain websites (such as social media and gambling), and you can even block Microsoft tools like email, SharePoint and Teams or internet access altogether until Entra Internet Access is enabled. You’re forcing your employees to use a secure connection before accessing company data.
You don’t have to rely on the judgment of your employees to use a secure network, as Entra Internet Access ensures safe access regardless of where your employees are working from.
While we see road warriors, heavy travelers and work-from-home employees getting the most out of this tool initially, it’s also valuable companywide. Entra Internet Access will protect anyone who leaves the safety of their corporate firewall in the physical office and brings their laptop back “dirty.”
Entra Private Access: A VPN Replacement
Entra Private Access works similarly to a VPN; it establishes a secure tunnel so remote workers can access private applications from an on-premises server.
But one of the biggest differences between Entra Private Access and a VPN is Entra offers granular control, meaning you can grant access to select applications rather than your whole network. With a VPN, you have no choice but to allow access to an entire network.
Entra Private Access uses a zero-trust model, which means every connection request must be verified before access is granted, regardless of the location or network status. It’s a principle of strict access controls that embodies a “never trust, always verify” philosophy.
