Your Granular Admin Relationship: What Does it Mean?
If you’ve been our client for some time, you probably have gotten an ominous-looking email about a granular admin relationship with Hungerford Technologies expiring soon.
Because it looks scary and possibly malicious, we understand why you might be concerned. But it’s nothing to worry about.
Here is what that email will look like.

What Does Granular Admin Relationship Mean?
Microsoft says, “Granular delegated admin privileges (GDAP) capabilities allow partners to control access to their customers’ workloads in order to better address their security concerns.” In layman’s terms, you as our client, permit us to control parts of your Microsoft 365 environment to ensure the proper security settings are in place. We also can view account analytics, which helps us improve your security posture.
The expiration of the granular admin relationship basically means Microsoft forces us as the administrator to make sure high-level permissions are evaluated regularly.
It’s similar to how your smartphone might notify you of permissions that were revoked for a certain app if you haven’t used that app in a couple of months.
“…the maximum duration of a granular admin relationship is two years, so you can expect this email every two years.”
Why Am I Getting This Email?
The email is simply letting you know that we have updated our admin credentials for your account. For security reasons, the maximum duration of a granular admin relationship is two years, so you can expect this email every two years.
What Do I Need to Do?
There’s nothing that needs to be done on your end. You’re simply receiving the email because you’re also an admin for the account.
