How to Turn Off Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat

Because any user with a Microsoft Business license can use Copilot Chat, we’ve been getting questions about its safety.
Yes, it is safe, and we’d recommend that you and your organization use Copilot Chat over other AI models due to its enterprise-grade data protection. You won’t get the same level of protection as the free versions of ChatGPT or Gemini.
However, if you haven’t properly configured account permissions, then your employees could use Copilot to view or edit data they shouldn’t have access to.
Disable Copilot Chat in Three Easy Steps
If you prefer to disable Copilot Chat for added control over your organization’s data, you can do so through the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Here are the steps:
- Access the Microsoft 365 admin center with global admin permissions
- Navigate to the Copilot Chat settings
- Adjust permissionsfor all users or specific groups
Note: It may take up to 48 hours for changes to take effect.
